DON KNOTTS

One of my favorite actors from my childhood died on Friday the 24th. Most famously known for his roles in The Andy Griffith Show & Three's Company (I didn't watch those much). But his movies like "The Ghost And Mr. Chicken", "The Shakiest Gun In The West" & "The Apple Dumpling Gang" (with the brilliant pairing of Don Knotts & Tim Conway) were among my favorite movies when I was a kid. Sad. He was so funny, with the rubber face & squeaky voice. Anyway, that's all I have to say about that.

"SNAKES ON A PLANE" A NEW CULTURAL PHENOMENON

There's a new Samuel L. Jackson movie coming out that is tentatively titled "Snakes On A Plane". It has developed a ridiculous cult following even before it's release. (I don't even know if it's been shot yet!) It's a big deal already for 2 reasons: 1) It's going to be so bad, that it's going to be awesome!! 2) It has the best movie title EVER!! In fact, Samuel Jackson only took the job because of the title! They were going to change the name but he insisted on Snakes On A Plane! You can read Samuel Jackson talking about it HERE. Also, a screenwriter who was asked to work on rewrites for the movie & fell in love with the title but ultimately turned it down has a hilarious blog telling his whole story HERE. (Forgive the language if that offends you, but if you know Samuel Jackson's movie characters, it makes perfect sense). There is also an entire blog devoted to the movie called "Snakes On A Blog". The general premise of the film, as I understand is: Samuel Jackson plays an FBI agent transporting a witness under protection, they are on an airplane & an assassin, trying to kill the witness- releases deadly snakes on the plane. That it. That's not the end of my story, though. I was on Urban Dictionary Dot Com doing some research about street slang for a TV piece I'm working on. Guess what I come across? "SNAKES ON A PLANE!!" It has an official "street" definition! Meaning: Somewhere between "cest la vie" & "whaddya gonna do?" You must check it out to fully understand...
So, in closing, I bowl on a Wednesday night company league. My teammates from work decided that our name must be "SNAKES ON A PLANE". So that is what we are called. I'll leave you with photos of the front & back of our official shirt.

ANGELENE ON ITUNES!!!

Check out an amazing interview with the one & only Angelene Ripley Wright on iTunes.
If you have iTunes, simply do a search for "Elvis Ripley". You can download it for free.... an intervew with Elvis Ripley Dot Com radio.

You can also watch the Sci-Fi series "Mind Rain" on as well. (Written, filmed, scored, edited & produced by Elvis). Just make sure you start with the first episode, or you probably won't have any idea what's going on. (Kinda like "The Matrix" trilogy or "The NeverEnding Story" series).

ROCKIN' GRAMMYS

Tonight some people came over to watch the Grammys. ROCK MUSIC PEOPLE!!!! There were some great rock performances. (U2, Coldplay, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen...) Not to mention a nice tribute to Sly Stone with Steven Tyler & Joe Perry, Maroon 5, John Legend & Robert Randolph, among others... & the man Sly himself!! How about that crazy glue-on mohawk!!?? So it was great to not only see rock bands winning the awards again, but to see live performances that weren't either Limp Bizkit, Creed, Korn, etc... or stupid 4-minute "mash-ups" of 3 rock bands. I couldn't have been happier to see Kanye West loose out the "Record of the Year" & "Album of the Year" to Green Day & U2. Sorry, I read his "Rolling Stone" article- he needs to come down a few notches. And what's the deal with Jamie Foxx thinking he really is Ray Charles?? Enough already!!
Sometime during the evening, Paul & Joe got a little too cozy... a little creepy...

Then, the Beastie Boys rocked the mic on "The Late Show" - promoting their new "Awesome: I #@$**%' Shot That!" DVD...
(They did a show at Madison Square Garden where they gave 50 fans in the audience handheld Hi8 cameras -along with their own camera crew- & then edited the footage) So Dave Letterman gave some fans in the theater handhelds as well as he & Paul, & they cut back & forth with all those shots. It was pretty cool.

Then, to top off the music-filled evening, Sigur Ros performed live on Conan O'Brien, complete with a glockenspiel. So overall, a great night of good music.

COUNTRY MUSIC!!!

Last Thursday Kayleen and I went to see Keith Urban at the convention center. I had forgotten about the show until the day before and when I remembered I asked the folks if they could get me a ticket or two. Well thanks to mom and dad for making it happen. Jonny and Paul had planned to see a movie that night, so it was the perfect opportunity to steal Kayleen away to boot scoot and boogie.
We arrived at the convention center and what I feared happened. Our tickets were not on the will call list. So ... after a call from my dad he empowered me to tell the snooty woman with the list that we were on there, but she still didn't believe me & looked at me like I was crazy- or like we were girls trying to sneak in or something. So then we had to wait until Keith's manager got him onstage & then he came & got us in... so we were like: "hahaha!!" (Ok, not really). So we had really good seats & there were lots of crazy women there, & the show was AWESOME! At one part during the show, he grabbed onto this harness thingy & flew out over the audience!! Then later we went backstage & hung out with Nicole Kidman & she was so cool... ok, just kidding about that part. We had fun!!
